The Papal Palace

The Papal Palace is the most notable monument of Viterbo. Here, in 13th century, took place the longest conclave in Church history

The Medieval area

Within Viterbo’s walls is one of the largest and best preserved medieval areas in Europe as well as other features of historical and architectural interest. Piazza S. Pellegrino is the heart of the charming medieval quarter. Strolling along a maze of silent little alleys is like travelling back in time and history

The Walls of Viterbo

The walls of Viterbo stand virtually unchanged since they were built between the 12th and 13Ith century. Access to the city centre is through the original gates

The Macchina of S. Rosa

Carrying the Macchina di S. Rosa, a thirty metre-high construction, through Viterbo's narrow streets by one hundred men, known as "facchini", is an impressive and highly emotional event that has been a centuries-old tradition on 3rd September, to commemorate the translation of the body of S. Rosa, Viterbo's patron saint, who died in 1258

Thermal Pool

Viterbo is a thermal district with numerous hot springs having important curative properties. The monumental pool of more than 2,000 square-m. filled with thermal water from the Bullicame font is seven minutes drive from our B&B

Francigena Route

The ancient pilgrim's route Francigena, that in medieval times connected north-Europe to Rome and Holy Land, has been discovered by modern wayfarers. It crosses north to south the province of Viterbo along stretches of the original consular road

Villa Lante

In the village of Bagnaia, a short distance from Viterbo, you may visit Villa Lante, one of Italy's greatest 16th century gardens, where trees, hedges and water features intertwine in an enchanting choreography

Civita di Bagnoregio

Civita di Bagnoregio, a beautiful village on the top of a tuff, inaccessible to vehicles and with a population of about ten residents. It is surrouded by impressive canyons (the Valle dei calanchi)

The Sacred Wood

In Bomarzo, an ancient village 30 min. from Viterbo, you will find a unique monumental complex of 16th century called the Villa of Marvels or Sacred Wood also known as Park of Monsters

The Farnese Palace

The mansion of the Farnese family in Caprarola (30 min. drive from Viterbo) for size and elegance is one of the finest examples of the Renaissance architecture. With its splendid gardens it resembles a sort of royal palace in the heart of northern Lazio

Tuscania

On the site of the Etruscan acropolis the church of S. Pietro in Tuscania (23 km from Viterbo) is a magnificient example of romanic-lombard architecture

The legendary “Mille Miglia”

The legendary Mille Miglia is revived as an annual rally for vintage cars. Here the checkpoint in the Plebiscito square. For those who want to re-live the experience of the historic 1000 Miglia, there are stretches of the original track between Viterbo and Siena
